Interactive Birthday Cards

This October, 3 colleagues working in the same Team with me are celebrating their birthday so I decided to make birthday cards for them.

For the 2 male celebrants, I used BB Space Explorer from My Favorite Things. I have always wanted to try making a galaxy background so I thought this stamp set would be perfect for the theme.

I used the planets and the spaceship on one and then just the astronaut on the other.

To achieve the galaxy look, I used the following ink pads from Stampin’ Up!(c):

  • Mango Melody
  • Sweet Sugarplum
  • Granny Apple Green
  • Pacific Point (Blue)
  • Night of Navy

Then I also used Black to give the edges a darker look 🙂 The one with the astronaut looked a bit glass like because the lighter shade were in circles and I dabbed them everywhere.

In the end I liked the galaxy effect of the one with the space ship better as there were light colors in strips giving it, well, a galaxy-look hehehe.

Then, I used a set of unbranded sliding dies I bought online to make the main elements move and make the cards more interesting.

For a more feminine card, I used the Mermazing stamp set from My Favorite Things. Indeed, the person that received this card was an awesome and amazing friend. She has been very helpful to me at work ever since I got back from maternity leave. I’m lucky I sit next to her 🙂

I decided to make a shaker card this time and create an ocean background.

If I were to recreate this card though, I think I’ll use a white backing paper instead of blue then just create the ocean color using ink pads. Then I’ll color the mermaid using a lighter shade of green probably. I kind of liked the effect of the white chalk pen though, it made a difference on my otherwise mediocre coloring. I am not very good at it hehehe.

Definitely a lot of room for improvement there but one thing that’s great is that my colleagues loved the card.

I wonder who will be the next on my list to receive hugs in a card 🙂

Til next time – Jenn xx

Just an update. Recently, I recreated the interactive Astronaut card. Here is a short video:
