Cardmaking, along with other crafting hobbies, can be very costly. Sure, it’s fun and relaxing, that I discovered while I was watching YouTube tutorials when my toddler was just a baby. Back then I told myself I will definitely give cardmaking a go, when my baby’s older. Then I was shocked to discover how expensive this hobby was!
Papercraft lovers like me would understand, but a standard card that looks worth less than $5 could actually require more than a hundred dollars! But we continue to do it anyway, and I continue to give them away for free because there’s nothing more wonderful than making someone else feel special. A card is not only worth a lot of money but also time and so much love… 🙂
Anyway, you learn in the long run how to save both in money and time. In this post, I will share a simple recycling technique. This is an alternative to buying glitter cardstocks, which are more expensive than the standard paper cardstocks.

These stars are punched from a recycled bunting banner I bought for less than $5 I think. I bought them for my baby’s first birthday back in 2018 – you can check it out on my blog here. After the party, I realised that I could recycle it for my cards so I kept it and then remembered to use them just now hehehe.
Using punchers, I created stars out of the silver glitters. It was actually quite thick. Each flag has glitter on both sides so you can also use die cuts (of hearts, stars, flowers, leaves, and all sorts of shapes) to create confetti.
I haven’t tried it yet but I think you can also make die cut letters and numbers from it. It might also look nice when used as outline for frames or elements.
So there you have it! The next time you are having a party, try to think first if you can recycle those lovely decors before chucking them in the bin. Just keep them neatly in your crafting drawer where you can see them so you they don’t end up in your stash untouched for years, just like mine hehehe.
In my next post, I will share with you how I used the lovely silver stars on my cards. Until then! Happy crafting!
