Penguin Palace: Most Wonderful Time

Penguin palace most wonderful time stamp set winter cardmaking idea

Hello friends! I’m back today with a card using one of the stamp sets I got from Penguin Palace, Most Wonderful Time! This stamp set features 4 characters having fun in the snow. It’s ironic that in some parts of the world, people are longing for some warmth by now, whereas in Australia, I was sweating from the heat while I was making this snow themed card.

It’s a little too late to make holiday cards now, but that’s the beauty with the Most Wonderful Time stamp set. You can use it for other occasions as well. This particular card design I made can be an everyday hello card, for a friend you’re missing, or even a birthday card.

To make this card, I started by creating my shadow box card from light blue cardstock. The dimensions of this cardstock is 30cm long and 11cm wide. Basically, it’s an A4 cardstock cut in half. I scored the cardstock at 4 1/4″ – 5 1/2″ – 9 3/4″ – 11″. These measurements will make 2 squares, front and back and has a 3/4″ tab which will attach to the other end and form the shadow box.

Next, I cut a scalloped square frame from a purple cardstock using the largest die from Scrap Dragon Stitched Square Scallop Frames. I cut an opening from my shadow box just enough so I could still attach the purple frame. Since the sides of the window are too narrow, I decided to adhere strips of cardstock at the back to make the sides sturdy.

After I was satisfied with my shadow box, I cut a piece of smooth white cardstock that’s the same size as the back portion of my shadow box card, but just slightly smaller so I could slip it inside. I created the background for my shadow box using ink blending. I started at the bottom with Distress Ink Spun Sugar, then worked my way up with Shaded Lilac, and Balmy Blue Stampin’ Up! Ink last. I also added some snow fall using a white gel pen.

For the snowbanks, I used a stitched die cut on heavy white cardstock and made 3 pieces. The first one, I stamped my sentiment “You Are The Coolest Friend Ever” at the bottom part. This sentiment is from the same stamp set, Most Wonderful Time. The second snow bank was used as an insert inside the shadow box card. It has 3/4″ extra space on each side for the tabs and adhered to the sides of the shadow box card. The last snow bank I attached on the background.

I had stamped selected images from the Most Wonderful Time stamp set and then coloured them with Ohuhu markers. The boy in the sled was position at the front, the girl on the middle snowbank, and then the trees at the background. I also added the ice skating shoes at the front.
