DIY Cake Topper | Autumn Trees

Diy cake topper autumn trees birthday ideas

Today is a quick post sharing this DIY cake topper idea I made for May birthday celebrations. Since it’s the last month of autumn and inspired by our recent travels to Bilpin and Windyridge Mount Wilson, I decided to create autumn trees with the last leaves clinging to the branches.

I cut the branches from a brown cardstock. I drew the trunk and branches myself, folded the cardstocks, and cut them at the same time, so I had 2 mirrored trees. Then, I cut some autumn leaves using various die cuts on white paper and coloured them with watercolour paints. The paper buckled because of the water but made the leaves look crunchy. The effect was perfect.

I added a wooden signage for the Month and Year. It’s just a small rectangular piece of kraft brown cardstock which I coloured with alcohol ink markers to make it look like slabs of timber. Then I attached a popsicle stick.

The trees were connected by a cloth banner which I printed on white cardstock. Then I attached barbecue sticks at the back of each tree to make them stand on the cake.

Too bad I didn’t have a photo of the cake toppers. It should work nice on a chocolate iced cake, add some orange sprinkles, and pretzel sticks for a fence for a nice cosy, autumn scene cake. 🥰
