Penguin Palace Challenge: Ocean Moodboard

penguin palace challenge ocean moodboard

Hello everyone! Today I am sharing this pop up card design I am entering for Penguin Palace Challenge #39! The theme is Ocean Moodboard. I really love the combination of purples, blues, and whites (or greys). I thought it’s perfect to create a magical scene for this digital stamp set. This cardmaking project uses Concord and 9th cardstack base dies, it’s a pop up again, and I also used Poppystamps dies for the leaves.

I started by cutting the pop up card base on a thich watercolour cardstock. Then I mixed the purples and blues to colour the entire card base. It took me several layers to achieve this magical night look. I splattered pearl white paints too, and then using some cotton tips, I created bokeh circles on the background by dipping the cotton tips on white ink pad.

The digital image was from Penguin Palace Digital Downloads Garden Fairy. I used colour pencils to colour the image and then added white highlights using a gel pen. I added foliage cut in white cardstock and coloured with blue and white pearl watercolour paints. Some of the leaves were cut from silver foil and vellum paper too. Then I glued them around the garden fairy.

The sentiment I used was from Poppystamps. I cut the word HELLO from a silver foil and it created a beautiful contrast against the dark night background. Finally, I added some rhinestones here and there for embellishment.

I hope you liked this cardmaking idea. It really is easy to put together but the colouring is the difficult part. If you liked this design, please share some love and like this post or head over to my Instagram and Pinterest page and follow for more ideas. I try to add new designs every now and then in between my hectic life and I hope that some of my ideas inspire artists out there, too.
