Quick Christmas Pop Up Easel Card: Home for Holidays

Creatve holiday cardmaking tips poppystamps easel home for the holidays

Hello friends! I’m so excited to share another DIY Christmas cardmaking idea for today. This holiday card has lots of details but it’s actually easy to make in batches. In this blog post, I will share the supplies I used and some tips and techniques on how you can organize your cardmaking process to create this easy handmade holiday card in bulk.

If you have been visiting my blog for a while, you will notice that I like to share card ideas for beginners because I consider myself a beginner in cardmaking too, even though I have been making cards for the last 4 years or so. Besides, I want to help busy people like me who have full time jobs and family to take care of, and still be able to enjoy cardmaking during the limited time we have and it all boils down to coming up with cardmaking tips and techniques. I love pop up cards or ones with lots of dimension but I used to think making them was out of reach. So I learned how to make pop up cards and I just love how versatile it can be.

This particular handmade Christmas pop up card features one of my favourite stamp and die company, Poppystamps! Honestly, their easel dies are the best and this particular one is the Winter House Pop Up Easel set which works for all kinds of occasions. With a few tweaks and modifying, your handmade card project can be made suitable for Christmas, new home congratulations card, or just a regular hello card for friends and families you randomly want to send a greeting card to. You can definitely make Halloween house cards like the one from my previous post.

For this personalized Christmas card idea, I decided to go with the regular red and green Christmas colours. I also adapted a design from my previous festive pop up card project the holly berries which I place on top of the second floor windows. One of my favourite cardmaking techniques is using different papers and media in my projects. The green tissue paper made the pine leaves look full without the bulk that heavy cardstocks make. By the way, for my crafting supplies, especially cardstocks, my go to brand is Stampin’ Up! in Australia. It ensures that I have a steady supply of quality papers for both smooth white and other colours so I could continue creating unique Christmas cards throughout the year.

This Christmas card is so quick and easy that you really don’t need a step by step tutorial card guide. Poppystamps die set has got all the details covered that all you need to do is cut them out in the colours you prefer so really the only planning you need is to think of your colour theme before hand. Assembly of the house is easy too for the die cut pieces fit perfectly together and the house itself shows subtle marks that serve as guide where you need to glue the pieces.

The only tricky bit is the door. The die set from Poppystamos does not have a separate die cut for just the door so you need to cut just a small piece to cover the entire door and run the big die set to cut the door.

One technique I use when making handmade cards in batches is to create just one card at first. This fine tunes my design before I decide to make them in bulk. Once I am completely satisfied with the design, I then plan out the pieces. I separate each die cutting piece with the related colour of cardstock. Then I lay out the pieces on the die cut machine maximizing as much space as I can to lessen the time I have to run the die cuts through the machine. Then I weed out the pieces and separate them into small boxes or compartment organizers. If you want to be resourceful, you can even use a bento box for the smaller pieces. Once you have organized your pieces, assembling the card together becomes such a quick and easy step. It’s so exciting when the pieces come together to create a lovely festive holiday card!
