Hello creative friends! I’m back again with another CIY Christmas pop up card tutorial. Well, not really a tutorial because really, this easy handmade holiday card is so quick that you don’t really need a step by step cardmaking guide to make this so maybe it’s more suited to say, I’ll be sharing some cardmaking tips. I used Poppystamps Woven Basket Easel Dies for this festive pop up card design and honestly, Poppystamps create the best easel die sets! I’m just in love with all of their easel die sets. Before I dive in to the cardmaking tips for this creative holiday card, let me just tell you that you can create so many wonderful cardmaking projects with the Woven Basket die set such as a gratitude card, mother’s day card, new year card, etc.

I wanted to create a unique Christmas card design so I went with an unusual colour scheme of red and blue. I think it really made the red poinsettias pop out from the contrast of the colours and the subtle craft brown colour of the basket as well as the almost sage green leaves compliment the colour scheme well.

Over the years, one of the cardmaking tips I have picked up is that colours are key. I do not have a natural flair when it comes to colour combinations and I don’t have “the eye” to determine which colours go together well. To be honest, my children used to criticize my cardmaking projects before because I tend to mix warm and cold colours together so my card designs were wack hahaha. Also, I just learned the terms warm and cold over the years and I say I’m a work in progress but the biggest takeaway was that in any art, including cardmaking, colour is key.

So even though poinsettias naturally have yellow centres, I went for a silver embellishment this time to match the colour scheme. It also matched the silver sentiment on top of the basket so that the entire cardmaking design was somehow harmonious. Also, if you are like me who loves sparkles and shine in her cardmaking projects, rhinestones and metallic cardstock are great crafting supplies to have in your stash. Gold and silver colours are must have since most colour schemes would match with either a gold or silver.

For all your cardmaking activities, it is ideal to use quality cardmaking supplies such as heavy and smooth cardstocks from Stampin’ Up!. There are various crafting stores to buy your supplies too, however, I find that it’s easier to get it from one source and Stampin’ Up! is an easy access in Australia. Most of my ink pads were from Stampin’ Up! too.

Finally before I end my post, let me just list down the dies I used for this festive pop up card design:
- Poppystamps Woven Basket Easel Die – for the basket, card base, bow, and background grass
- Poinsettia Flower Die Set – from ScrapDragon
- Poppystamps Orchard Leaves Die – for the leaves
