Hugs in a Card

Hello friends! I’m back with a cardmaking project which I am entering for Poppystamps challenge. The theme for this month is cute critters so this cute big hedgehog die is making an appearance again hehehe.

The minute I saw the double lattice die from Poppystamps, I knew I should make a garden card. A pop up card of course, just because I love to make 3D cards!

I scored the front of my card at 2 inches from the bottom and then ink blended this part with Salvaged Patina Distress Oxide. I also ink blended with the same colour the flip side of the card but at the top instead of the bottom. The top fold forms the background of the pop up card while the bottom forms the roof when the card opens.

On this inside part with the ink blended, I glued the Poppystamps double lattice die cut over. I added thin strips of white cardstock on both sides to make the edges clean.

Then I folded the roof over, so the inside starts looking like a shadow box card. I attached a 1/4″ thick white cardstock on both ends of the roof connected to the base. I added a fence too. So the frame of the pop up part looked like a garden gate.

I die cut the hedgehog on a white cardstock and used flesh and brown watercolour for colouring. I also die cut some leaves and flowers from green and pink cardstocks in different shades.

I created a swing from 2 pieces of dark brown cardstock for the seat. I sandwiched the silver strings and then did the same at the top. For the top, I used white cardstock so it could blend nicely when I attach it to the roof of the frame.

After attaching the swing to the roof of the frame, I positioned the hedgehog onto the seat. I used a clear acetate to support the back of the hedgehog so it wouldn’t topple over since it’s quite heavy for the swing.

I then glued the leaves and flowers on the fence and on the lattice behind the swing. I also added some leaves at the top part of the fence gate.

For the front part of the card, I decided to keep a very simple cardmaking design. I splattered Salvaged Patina inks on the top white part as well as metallic silver watercolour. I added the calligraphy word hello from Poppystamps brush hello die cut on an oval frame, with brown scalloped outline. And then I added some leaves and flowers around. I kept the same colour scheme as in the inside.
