Hugs in a Card

May is all about Mother’s Day and I designed this handmade easel card for my cardmaking project using Woven Basket Pop Up Easel Set which is one my favourite die sets from Poppystamps. I am sending this basket of flower easel card to my Mom in the Philippines and I decided to make one for my Dad as well.

I used a kraft brown cardstock for the basket which I bought from Stampin’ Up! (the cardstock is crumb cake). Then I cut the flowers from a white cardstock and coloured them using a blending brush and dye inks. The shades I used for my mom’s Mother’s day card are purple and pink. For my dad, I decided to make it in purple only.

Then I die cut the leaves and grass on a yellow green cardstock and brushed the middle parts lightly using a blending brush and a dark green ink. For the bow, I used a purple cardstock and just like the leaves and grass, I added purple ink in the parts where I like to create dimension. The grass, leaves, and bow are all part of the Poppystamps Die Set, while the flowers were from Spellbinders Be Bold Blooms Etched Die Set.

These were the ink dyes I used:

• Pink – Distress Ink Worn Lipstick
• Purple – Stampin’ Up! Highland Heather
• Green – Stampin’ Up! Mint Macaron

I assembled the basket of flowers on a white cardstock and added the sentiment die “miss you” from Poppystamps Miss You Moonlight Script in gold. Then I added gold rhinestones for embellishment. I attached the whole card onto a purple and pink cardbase and then also added a white basket outline for the inside of the easel card.

To activate the easel mechanism of the handmade card, I adhered large letter die cuts inside the bottom of the card to form the words MOM and DAD. And that is pretty much it. This cardmaking project is very simple because of the die sets from Poppystamps. I love Poppystamps series of easel dies and later on, I will share a project using the Adriana Pop Up Easel Set. It’s an easel die set that’s perfect for a garden theme with its leaves branching out of an oval frame in the middle.
